Does a Jobcentre Work? Jobs Centre NI, Jobs Center NI Online, Jobs Centre Online NI

Throughout my career people have asked me from time to time if a Jobcentre is a good place to look for Jobs? The short answer here is yes and I will explain why. Many years ago when advertising in the newspapers was seen as the thing to do (and to be fair it does/did have it’s advantages,) many companies and people also visited their local Jobcentre or view their jobs online. The Jobcentre works much like a recruitment agency, except they do not head hunt candidates, or as a huge benefit for employers, the do not charge them for their services. This is seen as a great win for companies and let’s face it, why not, they have nothing to lose. When I started in recruitment years ago, I got many of my candidates from the local Jobcentre and I even was able to book some time in the office to talk to job seekers and it worked very well. I personally believe there are 3 good ways of recruiting in Northern Ireland. Local and UK Job boards, Recruitment Agencies and the Jobcentre Online. So what are the benefits for employers and candidates? Employers:
  • The best and biggest, It’s free. This is because it is funded by the the local Employment and Learning and it is a great way for companies with low budget or small companies starting out, but do not be fooled, many blue chip companies use this service.
  • They can help employers to create the advert and even send jobseekers their was when they come in to register
  • They also offer employers a room for free to come in and interview candidates or speak to people registering for jobs.
  • Give companies free advice and help them the best they can
Candidates:
  • Can apply online for any job they think they are suitable for, just like NIjobsearch (sorry had to get my plugin sometime)
  • Speak to them and get advice on the local job market
  • Help with creating a CV
  • Help with Interviews
  • Get a new job quickly
Final overview Jobcentre is a good way for employers and candidates to apply for jobs and it does work like the other recruiting ways available to everyone. One (in my opinion that gets overlooked to easily) but can be very helpful for manufacturing and trading jobs. If you are looking for work and think you are not getting anywhere it does no harm in looking at your local jobcentre online.
